Ridge walk on the Kronberg

Scenic tour with a sensational alpine panorama.

This trail leads over lush green meadows from Weissbad to Rechböhl and through a shady forest to Klosterspitz. The village of Appenzell lies in a pretty valley basin to the north, the Schwendetal Valley lies on the southeast side. Past the huts of Neuenalp, the trail continues through the Hochmoor, a bog, which is of national importance and has been under protection since 1992. The trail continues to the west toward the Alps of the Vorder– and Hinter–Wasserschaffen. Enjoy the view of Ebenalp, Schäfler, Altenalptürme, Öhrli and Säntis. Via Alp Blatten you will reach the Berggasthaus Scheidegg (mountain inn). Treat yourself to a typical Appenzeller speciality before tackling the last climb up to Kronberg. Finish your hike by taking a cable car back down to Jakobsbad.
