The somewhat different ridge walk from Kronberg down to the valley
Hiking tip to the Berggasthaus Kronberg (mountain inn).
The cable car takes you up the mountain from Jakobsbad to Kronberg. Recharge your batteries in the mountain inn with Appenzell specialities before setting off on this tour. From Kronberg, you can hike along the broad ridge with a wonderful view of the Säntis in the direction of Schwägalp to a prominent saddle below Alp Dorwees. There you should not miss the signpost pointing to the right in the direction of Petersalp-Lauftegg. A wide ridge follows, which leads westwards around the Bälmli valley basin in the form of a large arc. Before Petersalp, the mountain trail climbs steeply once more before it then - past the idyllic Dürrenspitzli - steadily loses altitude to Lauftegg. In spring and early summer, Petersalp is known for its splendid flowers. The mountain trail continues over the lovely Lauftegg, where you can see the towers of the Leiden Christi Monastery and the valley station of the Kronberg cable car from afar. When you arrive at the valley station, every child's dream will come into view: A bobsleigh run, a zipline park, a campfire site and the so-called "Märliwelt" (fairy tale world). This world of fun is sure to excite adults and children alike.
