Away from the daily grind

A leisurely half-day hike amid tranquillity and incredible views of the north side of the Alpstein massif.

At the train station in Weissbad, start walking towards the southwest and past the Hotel Hof Weissbad. Cross the Wissbach stream and follow the path to the left towards Sonnenhalb. As soon as the often-visited Chapel of the Seven Sorrows of Mary ("Sonnehalbchappeli") comes into sight, turn right and hike along a shady path surrounded by trees all the way towards the picturesque Ahorn Chapel. The beautiful pilgrimage chapel, the cosy inn and the view of the mighty north side of the Alpstein will not let you move on so quickly. The way back leads down to the Wissbach. It is without a doubt worth taking a detour here to the nearby Leuenfall, where the Berndlibach torrent plunges into the depths. Soon afterwards you will reach the Waldgasthaus Lehmen (inn). Keep following the road. About 500m after the inn at the Eugst Farm you will have to keep left and walk across the meadows. Once you have reached the edge of the forest you will carry on a short way down and then cross the Wissbach again. Soon after you will reach Sonnenhalb Chapel again. Now you can walk the same way back to Weissbad.
