On cloud nine towards Himmelberg
An easy hike with an ascending stretch at the beginning and then a leisurely walk along the ridge to Appenzell with the most beautiful panoramic views.
A delightful hike up the hill with an incline at the beginning, followed by a pleasant ridge walk to Appenzell with the most beautiful view of the Alpstein. From the train station in Gonten, you will walk along the main road and the meadow path between Hotel Bären and the former Wetter butcher's shop up over the ridge of the hill to Göbsi. Soon you will be hiking in a zigzag up a steep slope to the Hundwiler Höhe, where you will be rewarded with a fantastic panoramic view over the Appenzellerland. In a southern direction, you can see the Kronberg and behind it the Alpstein massif towering high above you. Take the hiking trail in an eastern direction. First, you cross the highest point, then you descend via Ochsenhöhi-Chuterenegg. Continue along the ridge to the Himmelberg property. In an eastward direction, you will cross the shaded forest and later descend along the sunny edge of the forest to Fluchtrank. After carefully crossing the main road, you hike on the last, idyllic section over the Kaubach and through a special rock passage back to the colourful village of Appenzell.
