Gonten – Kronberg
A short but sweet winter hike from the valley to the Kronberg mountain whilst having a spectacular view of Säntis.
Step by step you will make your way towards Kronberg. From Gonten you will hike to the top station of the ski lift on a corridor road. If needed, you can shorten the way by leaving the road and going through the forest. As soon as you leave the forest, you will pass the various alpine and home pastures of the «Hütten» area and soon turn onto the winter hiking trail coming from the direction of Jakobsbad. From now on you will follow this trail and cross many a sledder who is on his way down from the Kronberg. Soon the Scheidegg mountain inn invites you to stop for a break, soon after the impressive view of the northern Alpstein chain and the mighty north face of the Säntis will accompany you on your hike. After passing the spectacularly situated Kronberg Chapel of St. Jakob, you will reach the summit cross and resting bench after a few steeper bends and from there it will not be far to the mountain restaurant.
Tip: Instead of floating down into the valley on the aerial cable car, you can rent a toboggan on the Kronberg and enjoy the ride down to Jakobsbad.
