Through forests up to Ebenalp

Hiking tip up to Ebenalp.

From Wasserauen, hike along the Schwendebach stream out of the valley and turn left at the Forscherstein, a favourite among climbers. The wonderfully laid out mountain trail leads through the cooling beech forest up to the Blättli forest clearing. The ground then becomes a little stonier and a little later you reach Alp Bommen with its fine alpine produce. With Ebenalp always in view, you continue uphill on a gravel path. As soon as you reach the Gartenwald ski lift, the beautiful final ascent takes you above the tree line up to the summit plateau.
This is followed by a visual treat: the Alpstein with its mountain peaks and the breathtaking distant view over the Appenzellerland with its typical scattered settlements all the way to Lake Constance are sure to make your heart beat faster. The sun terrace at the Ebenalp mountain inn invites you to stop for a bite to eat. You can easily return to Wasserauen by cable car.
