Sunny hike for every season
Panorama trail for young and old with cosy Appenzell inns and breathtaking views of the Alpstein.
A panoramic trail like no other for young and old. From the Sammelplatz train station, hike towards the west, first along a small road, then up a meadow path to the Rellen property. Next, the pretty Maria Hilf Chapel in the field beckons you to take a break and continue on a flat hike to Saul. Now, a panoramic path follows, with the Gäbris and the Hohe Buche as well as the villages of Gais, Bühler and Teufen greeting you on the right and the north walls of the Alpstein, the Kronberg and the Hundwiler Höhe towering on the left. Then you reach a road. The typical scattered settlement with Appenzeller farmhouses in the Gehrenberg-Saul area is strikingly beautiful. Soon the sun terrace of the Leimensteig Inn invites you to linger and offers you a wonderful view of the Alpstein. From here, the hiking trail leads along the side road down towards Haslen. Soon the route branches off downhill on the crest of the hill and after a short stretch of forest with a campfire site you are back in Haslen. There you can either take the Postbus to Teufen or Appenzell (check connections in advance) or book the practical PubliCar call bus via the app or give them a call (+41 848 55 30 60).
