Sammelplatz – Hoher Hirschberg – Sammelplatz
Whether there is snow or not, this hike is more like a stroll with a panoramic view. There is also the possibility to have a bite to eat along the way.
From the train stop in Sammelplatz, you will follow the train tracks along the Mendle Meadows. After a right turn, you will reach the Mäder property. Soon after you will reach the ridge of the hill and be rewarded with a phenomenal view of the Alpstein massif. A short way up and you will reach the Berggasthaus Hoher Hirschberg (mountain inn), the highest point of your hike. The ascent will be worthwhile once you are on top and see the view of the Appenzellerland and the Alps. You can either take the same trail down or take a sled down (you must however bring your own).
Tip: The perfect route for adults and children alike. If there is enough snow, you can take a sled with you and ride down to Sammelplatz.
