Across the Alpstein to Säntis
Hiking tip up to the Berggasthaus Forelle (mountain inn).
A few metres after the inn Gasthaus Alpenrose the steep way up to Seealpsee begins. Once you reach Seealpsee you will be greeted by a spectacular view. The view can be enjoyed on the terrace of the Berggasthaus Forelle. You can also rent a rowing boat and navigate your own way across the lake. After the inn, the hike continues up a steep zigzag-like way to Mesmer, where you can take your next well-deserved break. From here you will make your way to Wagenlücke and then to Gross Schnee, a very small glacier right under the peak of Säntis. The last ascent up to Säntis is enduring but definetly worth it. To get back down you can take a cable car to Schwägalp and then a bus to Urnäsch. From Urnäsch you can take a train to Appenzell or wherever your heart desires.
