«Steene- ond Lateene-Weeg»
A romantic winter hike illuminated by 40 lanterns from December to February.
The so-called «Steene- ond Lateene-Weeg» in Weissbad near Appenzell «in the middle of nowhere», is perfect for an idyllic hike on a cold winter night. Follow the stream and cross it over a bridge. On the other side, the trail follows along the forest back to the starting point.
The «Steene- ond Lateene-Weeg» translates to: «Stars- and Lantern-Way». Every evening (depending on the snow conditions) from the end of November to mid-February when it starts getting dark until around 08.30 pm the trail is illuminated with about 40 lanterns. When the sky is clear the stars cast light upon the trail as well.
During Advent and Christmas, a wooden nativity scene with large figures is set up.
Remarks
The trail is illuminated by lanterns every day (except in bad weather) from the end of November to mid-February.
It can be icy. To avoid falls, anti-slip irons are available for loan.
