Views and discoveries on Kronberg

A hike that offers everything: Views and insights, historic trail sections and a spectacularly located chapel - even a spring whose waters are said to have healing powers.

After you have floated up in the cable car, the first thing to do is enjoy the fabulous view. Towards the southeast, the northernmost Alpstein chain dominates with the Säntis, Öhrli and Schäfler, and towards the north, the Appenzellerland stretches to Lake Constance. To enjoy the view in peace, there are numerous benches and loungers around the summit. From the mountain station, you can walk along the wide ridge, past the summit cross, and slightly downhill to the Jakobskapelle Chapel. On the pastureland of the alp "Gross Chenner" you hike along the historic Jakobsweg to the Jakobsquelle (Jacob's spring). Drink from the fresh, cool water. The wayside shrine with the figure of St. Jakobs stands right next to the spring on the site of the old Jakobskapelle. Before you get back to the mountain station of the aerial cable car, you hike up through an idyllic spruce forest with partly bizarre branch shapes. After mastering this wonderful ascent, you can stop for a break at the summit and then return to the valley, where you can enjoy the world of adventure with the bob run, zipline park and the so-called fairytale world.
