Free arrival and departure – how it works
Book a hotel, a B&B or a holiday apartment of your choice in the Appenzell region for at least three consecutive nights, and indicate at the time of booking that you wish to travel by public transport.
Order your tickets online right here at least three days before your arrival.
A few days before your arrival, Appenzellerland Tourismus will send you your free public transport tickets and promo code for the P+Rail offer. The accommodation provider will also send you the Appenzell holiday card. You will need this when you arrive for the last section of the route. By the way, there are over 20 free offers with the Appenzell Holiday Card. Delivery will be made by e-mail. This allows you to conveniently save the ticket on your smartphone or print it out at home.
Regulations for free arrival and departure
Please note the conditions summarized in «Frequently Asked Questions». These conditions are binding for all travelers.
We book the most direct train connection for you in 2nd class. A class upgrade can be arranged at the SBB counter if needed. A change of route is not possible. From Altstätten, Gossau, Herisau, and St. Gallen, your Appenzell Vacation Card is valid as your train ticket.
In case of rebooking or cancellation of your trip less than 24 hours before departure, a processing fee of CHF 20.– per ticket will be charged.
Holders of a General Abonnement (GA): You already travel for free throughout Switzerland, so there is no need to fill out the form further.
